The Weight Loss Cure They Don’t Want You to Know About is an interesting book that covers quite a lot of shaky ground. If you’re sick of trying several different diets that never seem to work, you may be tempted to buy it and give it a whirl. However, it’s a pretty far fetched read in some points, and you may want to bring a pretty big salt shaker with you when you read it.

The author claims that several years ago the cure for obesity was discovered, but the FDA, AMA and several officials, doctors and diet gurus worked to keep it a secret. This revolutionary cure apparently details the fact that overweight people have urges to eat when they are not hungry, more fat stores than normal and a low metabolism. Well, duh.

Despite this earth shattering start, it gets better. The author recommends that in addition to trying the diet plan (we’ll get to that in a second), you should get daily injections of a hormone known as HCG. Please note that the FDA has not approved the use of this hormone for weight loss and we can’t really recommend that anyone try it. It’s commonly used by pregnant women, but that does not mean that it is safe for everyone.

Ok, onto the diet plan. For thirty days, if you do decide to give this plan a test drive, you will only be able to eat foods that are 100% organic. Easy enough, but a little expensive for most people. Our main problem was that the author didn’t go into which organic foods were good, and how much you should be eating of each one. Sure, organic beef is good, but you don’t want to eat an entire side of it.

Next up, in addition to your organic food and hormone injections, you’ll need to shell out money for some very pricey supplements to go along with everything. Bottom line, this diet will definitely hurt your bottom line. If you can find a doctor to give you the injections and hopefully you won’t, you’ll be forced to pay for them since your insurance won’t cover it.

Did we mention that the author is a convicted criminal and has no background in health or wellness? If you had any lingering hopes about trying this diet, that should be the kicker. Buy the book, but only to use as a guide of what not to do. This is the perfect example of a diet plan that can actually do more harm than good and we cannot recommend this book by any stretch of the imagination. Save your money, and start eating healthy balanced meals and workout. That’s the real secret to weight loss, and no one will ever try to claim that the information has been hidden from you. How this book made the best seller lists is one of life’s great mysteries.

Somaxon has gotten a big boost after Proctor & Gamble promised to help them sell Silenor to thousands of U.S. doctors and pharmacies. Both companies have agreed in principle to start the marketing efforts for the new sleep drug this September.

The deal also places Procter & Gamble first in line to negotiate for the rights to develop and market an over-the-counter version of Silenor in the United States. However, Somaxon would have to win FDA approval first before the drug could be sold without a prescription.

P&G Backs Somaxon for Launch of New Sleep Drug

That’s the second agreement of Don Miguel Ruiz’s classic, “The Four Agreements.”

I need a reminder today. So I open his book to that chapter and read:

Whatever happens around you, don’t take it personally… Nothing other people do is because of you. It is because of themselves. All people live in their own dream, in their own mind; they are in a completely different world from the one we live in. When we take something personally, we make the assumption that they know what is in our world, and we try to impose our world on their world.

Even when a situation seems so personal, even if others insult you directly, it has nothing to do with you. What they say, what they do, and the opinions they give are according to the agreements they have in their own minds…Taking things personally makes you easy prey for these predators, the black magicians. They can hook you easily with one little opinion and feed you whatever poison they want, and because you take it personally, you eat it up….

But if you do not take it personally, you are immune in the middle of hell. Immunity in the middle of hell is the gift of this agreement.

I’m not there yet. I am way too sensitive and way too vulnerable to the opinions of others. Where I HAVE made progress the last month is that I no longer read articles from a website that published material that upset me too consistently. I took a hiatus from that site. I also go through the equivalent of the FDA security process at the airport whenever I open a book. “Is this going to make me feel worse?” I ask myself, and if I can’t answer the question, or I find myself nodding, then I put it on the shelf to read when I reach a more resilient place.

But what I CAN’T control are the opinions of the people that I’ll run into during the day, those who haven’t managed a severe mood disorder and try to convince me that acupuncture, meditation, and yoga cure absolutely every illness. Or those that say the way I run my house is wrong because usually nothing is organized. I can’t control those situations.

So I sit down and try to soak in as much of Ruiz’s message that will penetrate the gray matter of my brain. He writes:

Even the opinions you have about yourself are not necessarily true; therefore you don’t need to take whatever you hear in your own mind personally…Don’t take anything personally because by taking things personally you set yourself up to suffer for nothing….When we really see other people as they are without taking it personally, we can never be hurt by what they say or do. Even if others lie to you, it is okay. They are lying to you because they are afraid.

There is a huge amount of freedom that comes to you when you take nothing personally. You become immune to black magicians, and no spell can affect you regardless of how strong it may be. The whole world can gossip about you, and if you don’t take it personally you are immune. Someone can intentionally send emotional poison, and if you don’t take it personally, you will not eat it. When you don’t take the emotional poison, it becomes even worse in the sender, but not in you.

As you make a habit of not taking anything personally, you won’t need to place your trust in what others do or say. You will only need to trust yourself to make responsible choices. You are never responsible for the actions of others; you are only responsible for you. When you truly understand this, and refuse to take things personally, you can hardly be hurt by the careless comments or actions of others.

If you keep this agreement, you can travel around the world with your heart completely open and no one can hurt you. You can say, “I love you,” without fear of being ridiculed or rejected. You can ask for what you need.

Wisconsin got a multi-state settlement from drug maker Astra-Zeneca for marketing an anti-psychotic drug which did not gain FDA approval. The said drug was aimed towards treating sleep problems such as insomnia and other psychiatric conditions.

Astra-Zeneca denied these claims and chose to settle the issue rather than let the drug issue get out of hand. At $4 million, that was indeed some issue which cost them a lot of dough!

Astra-Zeneca Settles Drug Issue in Wisconsin

Nuvigil has been declined for approval by the U.S. Health regulators after some questionable data in making the said Cephalon sleep disorder drug. Nuvigil is a successor to Provigil and was introduced last June. Cephalon received a response letter of denial to approve the drug for jet lag this time.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Agency in U.S, Jet Lag is a condition marked by a disrupted sleep cycle, headaches, or an upset stomach. Initially, The FDA had given an expedited six month evaluation for jet lag as part of a priority review program for novel medicines.

Jet Lag Drug Stalled

Somaxon Pharmaceuticals Inc. got approval for its insomnia drug Silenor after three tries from the FDA. The company had initially sent their drug application as early as January, 2008 which eventually got declined. Somaxon resubmitted its application on January 21, 2010, which was considered as Class 1 resubmission with a two-month review cycle resulting in a decision date by March 21, 2010.

Silenor has not been designated as a controlled substance by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration because of its demonstrated lack of abuse potential. Silenor works by selectively blocking histamine that assists people in staying awake. The drug’s ability to treat sleep maintenance insomnia into the final hours of the night without meaningful next-day residual effects and without abuse potential is what made it stand out as a safe insomnia drug which many sleep-deprived people are sure to want to try out.
